Projects of February and March 2017

I thought it was a great time to explain about my projects I have worked on in the past two months.

Stone Cold and Kurt Angle 2001 | Clayton Orobio Web Developer

Started out in February wanting to improve my knowledge with JSON and AJAX, so I created two separate web applications utilizing a set of data. Both applications use the same set of data, which is the roster of WWE wrestlers that are in Smackdown. The world of wrestling moves so fast that most title holders you see in the images are outdated after late January 2017. The JSON application searches through a JSON data file (wrestling roster) and allows to search through the roster without having to reload the page. The AJAX application is a carousel that cycles through the current roster every 5 seconds, unless the mouse hovers over the text.

The gif below summarizes my reaction after finishing them! Now implementing Bootstrap for a better experience on mobile devices.

On the topic of Bootstrap, I built a minimalistic site for a Youtube channel utilizing Dreamweaver as my development tool. Developing the site in Dreamweaver saved me a lot of time, as this site took me a few hours to build with modifications.

I decided last month to try out Adobe Experience (or Adobe Xd) design to improve my user interface and experience skills after I heard that the learning curve wasn’t as steep as Adobe Photoshop. I can’t beleive I didn’t use this sooner!

I believe when learning something new, it is best to relate it to something you enjoy. In my case, I wanted to design a mobile application interface of my favorite subreddit; Squared Circle. While gathering notes on this project, I decided there will be a “Sign In” page and a “Content Feed” page. You may click on the images below to view them further, as Xd allows for exporting the design to SVG.

What would take me a week to finish in Photoshop, took me two days to complete Adobe Xd. If you are in the fence about using Adobe Xd, I would go for it! The only complaint I have is that it shuts down randomly, without a notice. Thankfully, the project saves prior to the random shut down. Hopefully this bug is patched in the final version of Adobe Xd.

Thank you once again for sticking around and the next post should be in regards to the Angular 2 version of my site (I’ll definitely be using Adobe Xd). I’ll leave you with a great quote from a journalist that watched Wrestlemania as her first wrestling event and you can read the rest of her experience here. Stay the course
